Accessibility

We want everyone who wants to write here to be able to. Writing Club is built to work with screen readers, keyboards, and the text and motion settings on your device, and we measure it against the WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines. If something gets in your way, tell us at hey@writingclub.world and we’ll fix it.

What we do

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone. A “skip to main content” link is the first thing the Tab key reaches on every page, and whatever has focus is outlined.
  • Pages, headings, links, buttons and form fields are named so screen readers can read them, and messages like errors and confirmations are announced when they appear.
  • Text can be resized with your browser’s zoom, and the site honours your device’s reduced-motion setting.
  • Images we put on the site carry descriptions, or are marked as decorative when they add nothing the text doesn’t say.

The standard

We aim for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act and by most accessibility laws elsewhere. We test with keyboard navigation, with VoiceOver and NVDA, and with automated checkers, and we review new features against the guidelines before they ship.

What we can’t promise

  • Members write the responses, comments and chat messages here, and may add pictures to their profiles and writing. We can’t guarantee that everything a member posts is described or structured well.
  • Payment is handled by Stripe inside their checkout form, which we don’t control. Stripe publishes its own accessibility information.
  • The optional background music is a third-party radio stream. It is off unless you turn it on.

Tell us

If any part of Writing Club is hard to use with your assistive technology, or you need something in a different format, email hey@writingclub.world. Say which page and what happened, and which browser or screen reader you use if you know. We’re a very small operation, but we read everything and aim to reply within five business days.
